Nancy G. Brinker: Florida Icon, Philanthropist & Breast Cancer Advocate

Nancy G. Brinker, based in Palm Beach and age 79, is celebrated as a Florida Icon for her lifetime of leadership in health advocacy and public service. She is the founder of the Susan G. Komen breast cancer organization—one of the world’s most influential nonprofits in the global fight against breast cancer—and the Promise Fund of Florida, which expands access to screenings and care.

Brinker’s commitment to cancer awareness began with a personal promise to her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer. Since then, her work has helped fund billions of dollars in research and support and built widespread recognition for breast cancer causes.

In addition to her nonprofit leadership, Brinker has served the U.S. as Ambassador to Hungary and Chief of Protocol, roles in which she strengthened diplomatic relationships and cultural exchange. She also engages audiences via her TV series and continues to champion women’s health initiatives through Promise Fund programs that have screened thousands of women, with plans to expand statewide.

Her story reflects a deep personal mission, high-profile public service, and ongoing efforts to make meaningful impact in breast and cervical cancer prevention, research, and care.
